Chery has introduced the Omoda 5 EV. Indonesia is the first right-hand drive country to get this unit. This Chinese manufacturer claims that the order for the electric car has exceeded 100 units, although an official price has not yet been set.
PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) Vice President Harry Kamora said the SPK (Vehicle Order Letter) had reached 100 units. But that’s just the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2023.
“At GIIAS, we had a display before we wanted to get to know each other, so in the end we took an SPK of Rp. 10 million without a price. People want to spend money to get one hundred, right,” Harry opened up, met in Central Jakarta recently.
Regarding the price, Chery Omoda 5 EV is promised to be competitive. Is it under IDR 700 million? Harry didn’t dare answer.
“When is the price? It will be right after the launch, so just wait. The range is also not yet available, the point is that Chinese cars are affordable, good quality, good design, competitive (price),” added Harry.
On paper, Omoda 5 EV has a power of 15 KWh/100 km with a range of 450 km when the battery is full. Safety features are also one of the main focuses of this car, as evidenced by obtaining the five (5) E-NCAP safety certification for the European automotive market and A-NCAP for markets outside Europe.
Omoda 5 EV is said to be equipped with various excellent features ready to captivate Indonesian consumers. One of the highlights, of course, is the 14 Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) feature to improve safety while driving.
The 14 ADAS features include ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking), LDP (Lane Departure Prevention), ELK (Emergency Lane Keeping, TJA (Traffic Jam Assist), FCW (Forward Collision Warning), SLA , IES, LDW (Lane Departure Warning), RCTA (Rear Cross Traffic Alert), and RCTB (Rear Cross Traffic Assist with Braking). Besides ADAS, Omoda 5 EV is also equipped with 6 Airbags.
Slightly slide into the interior, Omoda 5 EV will have a large screen panel on the dashboard with a size of 24.6 inches, also accompanied by an ambient light of up to 64 colors. This car will reportedly also be equipped with Intelligent Voice Command and driving mode.
Chery Omoda 5 EV will also support the Vehicle to Load feature which can function as a running generator, then there is also the Driver Monitor System, which will also be equipped with the 8155 chip made by Qualcomm.
He added that the Chery Omoda 5 EV which is marketed is also locally assembled. Chery plans to sell and start production of this electric car in 2024.
“We have to catch up with the government’s target in 2026 (TKDN). What we can make here, we make here. While we are still using Reliable Indonesia Motor (factory), the contract is three years,” he explained.
