Manchester –
Andrew Onan decided to re-strengthen Cameroon National Team after having retired. This could be bad news for Manchester United. Why?
In fact, Onana has withdrawn from the Cameroon National Team since the 2022 World Cup. At that time, Onana only played one match against Switzerland in the first match.
After that, Onana had an argument with coach Rigobert Song because of different playing concepts. After that, Onana focused totally on the club with Inter Milan before moving to Manchester United.
Barely a year out, Onana has finally changed his mind by accepting Cameroon’s call-up again for this month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers. Cameroon needs a win against Burundi to qualify for next year’s finals.
Because they are still stuck in second place in Group C standings with four points, one point difference from Namibia.
“In football, like life, we always have to make crucial decisions at important moments,” Onana was quoted as saying ESPN.
“In the last few months, I have had to face many trials such as injustice and manipulation. However, my love and commitment to the country of Cameroon has never been lost.
“I finally returned to strengthen the national team in response to the expectations and support of all Cameroonians, who deserve to see their national team excel.”
Onana’s return to the Cameroon national team is bad news for MU. If the team nicknamed the Mighty Lions qualify for the finals, then Onana will be absent at the start of the year, from January 13 to February 11.
There were four Premier League matches and two FA Cup matches that MU went through during that period. This is of course a loss for MU who relies on Onana as the main goalkeeper.
Andre Onana has 34 caps for the Cameroon national team since his debut in 2016.
