Gianluigi Buffon retired as a footballer. He was offered to hold a farewell fight, but refused.
Buffon decided to retire in early August 2023. He stopped being a footballer at the age of 45 with Parma.
Until now, Buffon has not given a farewell like a super star. He even refused to contrive a farewell fight.
“I have no regrets. At the moment, I still receive offers to play farewell matches, but when I close a chapter, I have to move on and think about what will happen next,” said Buffon, as quoted by Football Italia.
“It’s been nice (to be a footballer), but now a new adventure begins and the farewell match will only give me a feeling of nostalgia which I don’t want.”
Buffon is willing to step up with a new task. He currently assumes duties as delegation leader at Italian national team or some sort of team manager.
