Former Georgia and NFL Linebacker Jarvis Jones Arrested for Speeding and Reckless Driving: Bulldogs’ Football Team Faces Trouble.

ATHENS, Georgia: Former Georgia and NFL linebacker Jarvis Jones, who now works on his alma mater’s football team, was arrested for speeding and reckless driving ahead of the Bulldogs’ season opener.

Jones’ arrest late Friday is the latest investigation, dwarfing the two-time reigning national champion, who has struggled with the problem since a high-speed crash on Jan. 15 involved offensive player Devin Willock and recruiter Chandler LeCroy died hours after a celebratory parade through Athens.

Jones, 33, is the Bulldogs’ player coordinator. He played in Georgia from 2010-12 under former coach Mark Richt and set school records for sacks in a season (14.5) and tackles for losses (24.5), which still stand.

After being drafted 17th overall in the NFL draft, Jones spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired in 2017 after a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said Monday that Jones would face “internal discipline.”

“It’s a personnel matter and I really can’t comment on that,” Smart said.

At least 14 Georgia players have been arrested or ticketed for speeding and reckless driving since the crash that killed Willock and LeCroy. Police said that while driving a university-leased SUV, LeCroy was racing former Georgia star Jalen Carter when she lost control of the vehicle. Carter, a first-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles, received a suspended sentence and a $1,000 fine after he failed to plead charges of reckless driving and racing.

Jones was arrested just before midnight last Friday for speeding and reckless driving. About an hour later, he was released on $2,400 bail.

No further details were available due to the Labor Day holiday.

Georgia opened its season last Saturday with a 48-7 win over Tennessee-Martin.
