ACS, Florentino Pérez’s construction company, adds a new project to his international career. Flatiron, one of the American subsidiaries of the firm, has been awarded a contract from the New York Department of Transportation valued at 137.7 million dollars (128 million euros) to replace a bridge in the well-known neighborhood of the Bronx.

The company has highlighted in a statement that the work will require a high collaboration with the Amstrak passenger railway lines and with the CSX freight network, as well as with the city transport company (MTA), since the bridge passes on some train tracks.

Flatiron expects to minimize the impact on both the road infrastructure and the circulation of trains and public transport services during the demolition tasks of the current bridge and the construction works of the new one. To do this, the company plans to use a new lifting engineering system.

In addition to the bridge works, the company will also be in charge of improving the pavement, creating 3.6 meter lanes, adding forks and building an exit ramp to East 177th Street. The work will begin this month of September, with the forecast of concluding the entire project in August 2026, so the estimated duration is around three years.

“This project will improve safety and mobility in the Bronx. We will demonstrate our commitment to the community, adopting objectives aimed at hiring disadvantaged companies in the area and the acquisition of materials from local companies”, highlighted the president of EE Cruz, the Flatiron subsidiary that will carry out the work.
