The man in his 20s drank both beer and spirits before getting into the car on a late November evening in 2022.

Now the Trøndelag District Court has sentenced him to serve 21 days in prison and pay a fine of NOK 60,000.

No one was injured, apart from the car: It ended up across the ditch.

The man lost NOK 200,000 in the wreck.

Address newspaper mentioned the matter first.

Earlier in the evening, the man had been given a ride both to and from a party. When he got home, things got worse:

He got behind the wheel to visit a friend barely 800 meters away.

On the way back, the car crashed into the ditch.

“He had drunk a lot in a short time,” reads the verdict. The man’s blood alcohol level was 1.42.

In court, the man admitted to drunk driving.

In addition to prison and a fine, he loses the right to drive for two years and three months. Before that time, he must take a new driving test.

The man has previously been punished for speeding offences, but not drink driving.
