A photographer managed to spot the royals on Saturday night in a speedboat in Venice, where the world-renowned film festival is currently taking place. King Philippe and son Prince Emmanuel were dressed James Bond-wise in a tuxedo with a bow. In the back stood daughter Eléonore next to the Dutch heir to the throne Amalia. It is suspected on social media that the company was on its way to a fashion show and party of the Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani (89).

Queen Mathilde (50) had not traveled to Venice. Nevertheless, she is a big fan of Armani, her most worn fashion label after the Brussels purveyor Natan. Mathilde was in southwest Germany on Saturday to attend the wedding of Duchess Marie-Amélie (27) von Württemberg. He married Baron Franz-Ferdinand von Feilitzsch (25) in the town of Althausen (Baden-Württemberg).
Marie-Amélie is the daughter of a friend of Mathilde. She works internationally as a concert violinist and trains young people to play the violin. Queen Mathilde herself is a big fan of classical music. She is honorary president of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and plays the piano in her spare time. Marie-Amélie’s father, Duke Friedrich von Württemberg, died in an accident in 2018. Today, her older brother Duke Wilhelm is the head of the House of Württemberg, one of the most prominent noble families in Germany.

No Elizabeth
Crown Princess Elisabeth (21) was probably not in Venice either. She nevertheless has a privileged relationship with Amalia, with whom she regularly sends messages. The Princess of Orange said last year that they discuss matters via Whatsapp that are slightly different for them, heirs to the throne: privacy, friendships, social media. Since they are in the same position, they understand each other without many words.
The bond between the Belgian and Dutch royal families has been warm for generations anyway. King Willem-Alexander (55) recently told HLN that King Filip’s mobile phone number is in his smartphone. They occasionally hear each other and also see each other both at international royal events and privately. Willem-Alexander said he was pleased that their two daughters also have a lot of contact with each other.
In the Netherlands, other photos than those with the Belgian royals in the speedboat attract attention: Amalia on the terrace of Café Florian. She ate an ice cream there with a blond young man. Media wonder who he is and if he is her new boyfriend.

Episcopal consecration together
Filip and Mathilde were back together in Belgium on Sunday. In the afternoon they attended the episcopal consecration of Monseigneur Luc Terlinden in St Rumbold’s Cathedral in Mechelen. He thus officially took up his position at the head of the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels, succeeding Archbishop Jozef De Kesel.
