The fourth day of the Premier League gave us an exciting confrontation between two giants of English football: Arsenal and Manchester United met in London in a duel full of intensity and moments of high football quality.
Arsenal, anxious not to lose track of leader Manchester City, who had accumulated four consecutive victories, knew that a draw would not do them much good. And so began a match that had fans on the edge of their seats.
The scoring opened in the 27th minute when Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford made a spectacular individual move after a quick counterattack and scored the first goal of the game. However, the joy of the visitors was short-lived, as just seconds later, the Norwegian Martin Odegaard of Arsenal equalized the score with a collective play of quick touches that seemed taken from a video game.
Arsenal had opportunities to take the lead, but Manchester United constantly threatened dangerous counterattacks. With just three minutes left in the match, Arsenal looked to have scored the winning goal after a perfectly executed counter-attack, but VAR intervened and disallowed the goal due to a millimeter offside.
The referee added several stoppage minutes, which brought additional excitement to the match. That’s when Arsenal’s Declan Rice converted a corner kick to score a crucial goal to make it 2-1 for Arsenal. Taking advantage of Manchester United’s lack of concentration, which was focused on attacking in search of a heroic equalizer, Brazilian Gabriel Jesús from Arsenal shot out, left a defender behind and scored the third goal that sealed the game.
With this victory, Arsenal rises to fifth position in the table with 10 points, leaving just two points behind the leader, Manchester City. At the top of the table, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and West Ham share the same number of points but with a better goal balance. On the other hand, Manchester United falls several positions and is now below the middle of the table.
