“I know everything about the smell, but the benefits of garlic are such that you should still use it,” says Elena Voronchuk. – Raw garlic not only strengthens the immune system, helps fight colds and flu, but also generally reduces the level of inflammation in the body. It contains a whole storehouse of vitamins – B1, B6, C, selenium, potassium, manganese, as well as a substance such as allicin.
Allicin is a compound found in garlic that lowers cholesterol levels and improves heart health. That is, regular consumption of garlic reduces the formation of blood clots and thus helps prevent thromboembolism.
Allicin also helps stabilize blood pressure. In addition, the antioxidants in garlic help to normalize blood sugar levels and lower homocysteine levels. Thanks to these properties, the product is also favorable for the prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
In addition, the bioactive component of garlic, S-allylcysteine, protects nerve cells, which serves as a preventive measure against certain diseases, for example, reduces the risk of dementia (including vascular dementia) and Alzheimer’s disease.
“We must remember that garlic should be eaten raw, since allicin is destroyed by thermal exposure,” emphasizes Elena Voronchuk. – An adult is recommended to eat 4 g of garlic per day.
