Hisense is showing a wide range of TVs at IFA 2023. The very largest is 100 inches!

Hisense is showing a wide range of TV screens in different sizes and price ranges at IFA 2023. Here we got to know, among other things, the flagship models UX, U8K and U7K. The largest model, the 100U7K, is available in screen sizes up to 100 inches.
ULED-TV?
Hisense focuses on what it calls ULED TV (Ultra LED TV), which is basically a variant of LCD with quantum dots and Mini-LED backlighting. But when you put all these technologies together, they can potentially create an “OLED killer”, says Daniel Eriksson, Nordic Sales Manager for Hisense TV.
With the help of densely grouped LEDs, accurate backlighting and better contrast control are promised, while Quantum Dot provides more authentic colors. The screens support up to 144 Hz frame rate and are powered by a video processor called the Hi-View Engine.
Hisense also emphasizes that they have a “Total HDR Solution” – with support for all the established HDR formats (Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10 and HLG).
Hisense UX series
The flagship model UX has a new video processor called Hi-View Engine X, with 16-bit data processing. It can therefore control the backlight very precisely and seamlessly from deepest black to dazzling light, which helps to reduce the typical halo effect that we associate with LEDs. The screen can handle a brightness of 2500 nits and has over 5000 dimming zones. It also has a surface treatment that reduces glare. The image looked dazzlingly bright and rich in contrast at the IFA fair.
Hisense U8K series
Just below the UX is the premium series U8K, also an LCD TV with MiniLED backlighting for up to 1500 nits of brightness. It doesn’t have as much video processing power as the UX series and has to make do with fewer dimming zones, but still looks promising. In addition to Dolby Vision, it also has IMAX Enhanced certification and Filmmaker mode for a neutral and clean image.

Hisense U7K and U6KQ series
The more affordable U7K series is aimed at gaming and sports enthusiasts. Features include 144Hz Game Mode Pro with VRR and AI Sports Mode, and is available in up to 100-inch screen sizes (100/85/75/65/55″). At the bottom of the “ladder” is the U6KQ with somewhat simpler image reproduction, but still with MiniLED backlighting, in 55 and 65 inches.

Hisense Laser TV
The Chinese manufacturer is also showing several “Laser TV” models, which are in practice laser projectors with an ultra-short throw distance. These projectors provide very good brightness and a wide color spectrum, and can project huge images when placed close to the wall. This could be an alternative to regular big screen TVs, especially thanks to a less bulky form factor. Of course, the brightness is moderate compared to the blindingly bright TV screens. But it offers exciting possibilities, such as connecting two projectors and getting a huge 200-inch widescreen in cinema format.

The operating system VIDAA
Hisense is also betting on its own operating system VIDAA, which offers a wide range of applications such as Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube and Disney+ (the availability of local services will of course vary). It has built-in voice control via the remote, and from the quick demo we got at IFA, the system seems very fast.

Bets on Europe and the Nordics
Hisense is a relatively new TV brand for us Scandinavians, but the Chinese company has grown to become the world’s second largest TV manufacturer after Samsung. You’ve probably seen the Hisense logo scroll across the screen at football matches before, and at IFA they announced the sponsorship deal for next year’s European Football Championship (UEFA Euro 2024).
