“I’ve always been very in love with the water, the water of Amsterdam,” says Douwe in the program when asked why he lives on a houseboat. Although the singer enjoys his unique place to live, he must admit that it is not the most practical. Certainly not now that he is the father of three little hummels.
“It’s dangerous,” he admits. “He [zijn zoontje red.] is already starting to walk and I notice with crawling that it is suddenly gone. When he starts walking later… I’m already shutting everything off. It’s just not convenient.” That’s why he’s looking for a new owner for his palace.
Douwe has three children with three different women. He is together with his son’s mother, Anouk, and will soon get married. He ‘unfortunately’ sees his second daughter far too little, he says in the singing program.
“It’s about people’s lives, about my dear children. I’m working on it a lot and I’m trying to do it all in the right direction… but it’s all still quite fresh and it all happened very quickly.”
