The Junta de Andalucía begins to set the criteria for the reinforcement of vaccination against Covid of this year. The Minister of Health and Consumption, Catalina García, has assured that she does not see the need for the fifth dose to be inoculated to the entire Andalusian population in general, betting that it focuses on those over 60 years of age, as well as vulnerable groups, pregnant women , immunocompromised and healthy.
García has explained that the idea is reintroducing the flu shot and the coronavirus booster at the same time, so he hopes that the vaccine adapted to the new variant will “arrive on time”. However, he added that “the problem is that right now there is no approved vaccine that covers this variant”, so the question remains as to whether it will be possible to apply both doses at the same time.
The head of Health has insisted that does not see the need for this fifth dose to be inoculated to the entire population in general, because it “has an immune system that responds to the interaction with the virus and is protected.” In fact, he has assured that “hospitalization says so because we do not have serious cases; We are at an incidence of 49.9 and 260 hospitalized, which is normal.
García has pointed out that although the WHO declared the health emergency crisis to have ended, “our obligation is to continue protecting the most vulnerable” against Covid. That is why Andalusia, when the mandatory nature of the masks was removed, immediately “brought out an instruction for health and social health centers recommending the use of the mask by professionals and people who visited these patients in oncohematology hospitals, oncology wards or infectious wards«.
