As Paradox Interactive promised some time ago, it happened. The years-announced and anticipated sequel Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is back, announced again with a new trailer, but also with the introduction of the mysterious studio that took over the project after previous failures. This is actually the British studio The Chinese Room, which is behind games like Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs or Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, thus confirming recent speculations. We should then wait for the release of the game sometime in the fall of 2024.
As expected, the game was “reintroduced” during the PAX West festival, and we’ve already learned, in addition to the release period, that January 2024 will see gameplay footage. Of course, there is also a description of the upcoming game, which we have heard about quite regularly in recent years, but unfortunately in other contexts. The sequel to the first part from 2004 by Troika Games takes us to Seattle, where vampires fight for survival and supremacy. Players will make their way through the city as an older vampire, who will meet a number of interesting characters of diverse characters, get involved in political machinations, but also in fights and, of course, also the necessary satisfaction of their needs in the form of blood. All the time, of course, it will be necessary to maintain secrecy and not reveal oneself to ordinary people.
The Chinese Room studio, which is also working on the recently announced title Still Wakes the Deep, may be a rather unexpected choice to develop such a game, although it is known for the quality story experience that is associated with Bloodlines and also expected from its sequel. Fortunately, more information is coming to us thanks of PCGamer magazine, who spoke to developers at the event. They stated that they kept the original plans of the defunct studio Hardsuit Labs in terms of the setting, i.e. Seattle and the Christmas period, and that they also used a lot of already finished design. On the other hand, they came not only with new code, but also with the approach, mechanics and RPG system.
Paradox has repeatedly mentioned in the past that it is satisfied with the new study and that the development is proceeding according to plan. Last year, however, he also mentioned that the release this year is not impossible, but it will not happen in the end, as we already know very well. This also disproved the recent speculation that arose from the alleged leak of data from the Plaion store, which was even announced as early as October 27 of this year. However, if you are still interested in what the Hardsuit Labs version of the game might have looked like, we remind you of the June article that was devoted to the leaked materials. The rest of the painful development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 can be recalled in our other older articles, but let’s hope that now the game is finally in the right hands and we will see it properly in a year.
