Administrative Imbroglio at Construction-Delayed High School Leaves Student Stranded for Start of School Year

Due to a delay on the construction site of a new high school, the young man finds himself at the heart of an administrative imbroglio on the eve of the start of the new school year.

A school year that started with difficulty. While this Monday is synonymous with the start of the school year and the return to class of tens of thousands of high school students, many of them still do not have an assignment for the coming school year. This is the case of Joshua, a young man from Val-de-Marne, who finds himself caught in an administrative imbroglio from which he and his parents have a hard time getting rid of.

Initially, this high school student was to be assigned to a brand new high school in Vincennes. However, as the parents were warned in June, the establishment will not be ready in time, due to problems on the construction site.

“Constraints related to the construction site lead to the postponement of the opening of the new high school in Vincennes scheduled for the start of the 2023 school year. All students residing in Vincennes will also be educated at the Hector-Berlioz high school”, indicated a press release from the Créteil academy. .

However, in the meantime, Joshua saw his second choice of orientation being refused. He now finds himself without a solution since the Lycée Berlioz, where he was logically to be accommodated, is now full.

“It’s getting quite anxiety-inducing”

It is now a race against the clock in which participate Joshua and his two parents, Nadège and Vania, who are angry with the administration.

“This decision was announced at the end of June, a little too late for our taste since we had no possibility of turning around to possibly request a change of choice number one on the assignment”, they say to BFMTV.

On August 29, only a few days before the start of the school year, the rectorate, after the last assignment commissions, confirmed that the young man could not be educated at Berlioz.

So, to try to get things moving, the parents contacted the school inspectorate, again the rectorate, but also the parents’ associations. To this must be added the stress that inevitably accompanies this delicate situation.

“He’s really starting to stress because he realizes that he won’t have the same chance as the others, he won’t have access to his fundamental rights. It’s becoming quite anxiety-provoking,” thunders his father.

Last year, for the start of the 2022 school year, there were 18,000 high school students in the same situation.
