It seems that they are in a price war with Chinese native companies.
According to local media on the 2nd, Tesla announced that it would cut the sales price of its semi-large sedan ‘Model S’ and semi-large sports utility vehicle (SUV) ‘Model X’ in China the day before.
The price cuts for Model S and Model X are 56,000 yuan (about 10.2 million won) and 98,000 yuan (about 17.8 million won), respectively.
After the price cut, the selling price was adjusted to 698,900 yuan (approximately 127 million won) for Model S and 738,900 yuan (approximately 134 million won) for Model X.
On the 16th of last month, just 15 days ago, Tesla put the selling price of the Model S and Model X at 754,900 yuan (about 137 million won) and 836,900 yuan (about 152 million won), respectively. I did.
Two days before this, on the 14th of last month, the ‘Model Y Long Range’ and ‘Model Y Performance’ were cut by 14,000 yuan (about 2.55 million won) each.
Chinese media observed that “Tesla has caused a direct wave in the automobile industry with a series of price adjustments since August,” and that the competition for discounting automobile prices in China will re-ignite.
In January, Tesla also lowered the selling price of the Model 3 and Model Y in China by 6-13.5%.
As a result of this, Chinese local electric vehicle makers and global internal combustion engine vehicle makers added price cuts, sparking fierce price discount competition.
Meanwhile, Tesla also announced the launch of the new Model 3 in China the day before. The selling price is 259,900 yuan (about 47 million won), a 12% increase from the old Model 3.
