The tradition of the big concert of Latvian music began in September 2022, when, with the participation of popular music performers of various generations and the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, a concert dedicated to the works of Raimonds Paulus took place at the “Daugavas” stadium. Liena Dāvida, organizer of the first concert from SIA “REKU”, tells about the beginnings of the idea for the first concert: “The idea for the first Latvian music concert came when the time of covid was coming to an end. We realized that people were longing for something big and powerful, for such a celebration of singing together , which is not exactly a festival of songs, although we in the team tend to call our concert that. It is a festival where every listener can sing along to all the songs from the first bars. This is how the first big concert of Latvian music was created.”
This year, the bar and scale has been raised even higher, as the concert will take place on the stage of Mežapark, emphasizes Liena Dāvida: “The program, like last year, is built from songs composed by Latvian composers. Last year, the concert was dedicated only to the music of Raimonds Paul, but this year we have expanded our horizons . There will be compositions by Jānis Lūsēns and Zigmars Liepiņš, as well as maestro Raimonds Paulus. We have chosen songs that evoke emotions.”
Listeners will have the opportunity to hear songs created by Imantas Kalniņš, Ulda Stabulnieks and other composers. At the concert, more than a hundred participants will gather on the stage, both the musicians of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol”.
“There are artists who also took part in the first concert – “Mazais princis”, Aija Andrejeva, Jānis Aišpurs, but there will be artists who will be at this concert for the first time – the group “Jumprava”, “Citi zēni”, “Sudden Lights” will already be on the big stage, last year they were a warm-up group,” says Liena Dāvida.
The conductor of the concert will be Jānis Ivuškāns, who is one of the creators of the song arrangements.
Also this year, the artistic director of the concert is Gustavo (Arstarulsmirus). He emphasizes that this time the concert is a tribute to Latvian music on a wider scale, and the concert has five arrangers.
