Exploding nitrous oxide cylinders cause such dangerous situations for waste processors that they have now decided to collect the gas bottles from recycling centers. This is how they want to prevent these bottles from ending up with residual waste.
Waste processor Omrin reports that from today the Frisian recycling centers are also prepared to take in the nitrous oxide cylinders, even though this is not officially allowed.
The cylinders are now often found in residual waste. That’s dangerous, says Omrin, because they can explode in a garbage truck or waste incinerator. “We are not talking about deodorant canisters, but cylinders of 2 kilos. It is a miracle that no one has been seriously injured or worse,” says the director of the Dutch Waste Management Association.
