The events occurred yesterday afternoon in an apartment complex located at 328 West 86th Street in the Upper Westside of Manhattan.
This morning, the police released the identity of the family.
The man and the person who had allegedly attacked the other members was identified as Edison López, 41 years old.
Neighbors had pointed out that the man is of Venezuelan origin.
His wife was identified as Alexandra Witek, 40, of Polish origin, and two children, 3-year-old Lucien and 1-year-old Calvin.
The bodies of the four family members were found after a wellness check requested by Edison’s brother, after not hearing from them for several days.
The corpses had knife wounds and presumably a bladed weapon was found next to the father’s body.
The neighbors were surprised and dismayed by the events.
“I saw him continuously in the morning, I saw him calmly, that surprised me, I never suspected (of anything),” said José Santos, one of the residents of the place.
“It hurts me because I have children, I have grandchildren, nephews and it would hurt me if a situation like this arose,” he added.
The incident remains under investigation.
