The province of León has already doubled this year Agroseguro’s compensation for the drought with 5.8 million euros, compared to the 2.38 it paid in the entire previous campaign.
The compensations in the province of León for the damages registered in dryland arable crops (winter cereal, legumes and oilseeds) amount to 5.80 million euros in this campaign. Of these, 5.23 million euros have already been paid to insured farmers from León, which represents 90.10%. The rest, as reported by the company, will be paid in the coming weeks until the total is completed.
The affected area exceeds 46,000 hectares in the province. The main risk has been drought.
Last year, throughout the year and including spring cereal and irrigation, the agricultural insurance paid 2.38 million euros to the producers of herbaceous crops in León. Therefore, this year’s compensation for damages is already more than double that of 2022.
Some figures, in any case, far removed from the 37.3 million that farmers from Soria will receive this year, the 33.4 from Burgos, the 27.1 from Valladolid or the 20.3 from Palencia.
On Thursday, August 24, Agroseguro exceeded 400 million euros (specifically, 406.2) paid to producers of arable crops throughout the national territory for the claims registered in the current campaign, mainly due to the drought, but also due to the hail storms that occurred between the months of May and July. This figure means that 90% of the estimated compensation has already been paid.
Specifically, on Thursday 19.1 million were paid to insured producers in 13 autonomous communities.
The main producing area, Castilla y León, received 13.9 million and adds 158.4 in total. The highest accumulated payments correspond to the provinces of Soria (37.3 million), Burgos (33.4 million), Valladolid (27.1 million) and Palencia (20.3).
In addition, the compensation already paid to farmers in Castilla-La Mancha (68.7 million), Catalonia (51.9 million), Andalusia (51.5 million), Aragon (39 million), Navarra (12.1 million ), Extremadura (6.3 million), the Basque Country (5.6 million), La Rioja (4.6 million) and the Community of Madrid (4.1 million).
The evaluation of damage to winter cereals, legumes and oilseeds began at the end of May, parallel to harvest time, and the payment of compensation began afterwards, achieving the average payment term of recent years. located in 30 days after the final appraisal of the claims. The payments will be completed in the coming weeks, up to a total, according to the current estimate, of 455 million euros.
On the other hand, Agroseguro estimates around 20 million euros the compensation that the wine growers of Castilla y León who insured their vineyards should receive for the damages caused in nearly 20,000 hectares of the Community, mainly due to the frosts that occurred in the months April and May, but where the hail that fell in the month of June has also had an impact. The claimed area amounts to 19,962 hectares, of which 12,740 were damaged by frost, mainly in the Ribera del Duero area.
