Previously, the largest alligator caught there weighed 347.5 kilograms and was 4.29 meters long and was captured in 2017. The record alligator was captured and killed by hunters during the ten-day alligator hunting season.
“It was a calm night. We saw a lot of two- and three-meter alligators, but that’s not what we came for,” one of the hunters, Donald Wood, told the local Clarion Ledger.
Brango’s alligator was spotted by hunters around nine in the evening, and it took seven hours to surround and kill it. It wasn’t until the alligator was pulled into the boat that it was revealed just how huge it really was.

“Honestly, it was surreal,” added Wood.
Alligators are native to the southeastern United States and can be found throughout Mississippi. It is prohibited to hunt alligators outside of the hunting season, and a special permit is required to do so in season. Each hunter is allowed two alligators larger than 1.2 meters and one alligator larger than 2.1 meters.
The largest alligator caught in America weighed 459 kilograms and was almost five meters long. Male alligators usually grow faster and are larger than females, but rarely exceed four meters in length.
