Several businesses closed
Most commercial establishments, including big-box grocery stores, will be closed on Labor Day. Small grocery stores will be able to remain open, like pharmacies, convenience stores and gas stations.
Only the Express branches of the SAQ, as well as those located in a public market, will remain open. All SQDC branches will be closed. Restaurants, bars and public markets will be able to open their doors.
Public services unavailable
Most public services will be unavailable on September 4. This is the case for the offices of the City of Montreal, banks and post offices. The same goes for government services, such as those offered by Service Canada and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec.
The collection of household waste and recyclable materials is however maintained and the ecocentres will be open.
Leisure offer
Several activities and services will be available during the holiday: this is the case for the Space for Life museums, which include the Biodôme, the Biosphere, the Insectarium, the Botanical Garden and the Planetarium. The schedule of other Montreal museums may vary.
The schedule for municipal infrastructures such as arenas and swimming pools varies according to the establishments. The majority of municipal libraries and cultural centers will be closed, but some may remain open. To find out, you have to ask the establishment.
Idle public transport
Public transport services are maintained in the metropolis, but their schedules are reduced. The timetables for the Société de transport de Montréal’s bus, metro and REM lines are available on the institution’s website. The Société de transport de Laval and the Réseau de transport de Longueuil will operate according to their Sunday schedule.
