MTA Road Reconstruction Update: M Line Service Closure Until September 5th

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today reminded customers that road reconstruction works are being carried out along the M line, which will require its closure, so there will be no service until next Tuesday, September 5.

Work crews will remove and replace switches south of the Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue station.

Alejandro Varela was one of the users who was confused and did not know how to get to work, but he was not the only one.

“There is no train, how are we going to pay double fares to get to work? If we go to Marce we have to pay double fares,” said Varela.

“Late enough?” What time did she have to be?

“At 8,” said another user.

The MTA enabled the M90 bus route for free so that users affected by the closures of the M line train can transport themselves. These will make all stops at stations from Middle Village-Metropolitan Av to Myrtle Avenue.

We go up to the platform of the train that is not in service, there we find Jenny Pérez.

“It’s a problem for you, so you’re late for work,” Jenny said.

We went with her to show her where the free bus was.

And so he continued on his way although a little late.

“I honestly despair because I don’t like being late for work,” Jenny added.

At the station we observed MTA personnel helping passengers find temporary routes but there was no one providing information in Spanish.

Some of the changes and options are as follows:

M90 shuttle buses between the Middle Village-Metropolitan Ave and Myrtle Av stations to connect with the J train at the Delancey St-Essex St station, or the L train at the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues station.

J trains will make local stops, plus additional J train service at peak times.

Customers can transfer from the J train to the F train for service from Manhattan to the Forest Hills station, as well as use the M90 to make a change to the F line, and through this line provide local service in some Queens stations.

Riders are encouraged to check out early and use the mta’s information services on changes by visiting the page new.mta.info

And although they have said that these changes are temporary, it is very important that you are always aware of the latest updates on the page of the MTA.
