Building a Big Stage: Behind the Scenes of a Spectacular Concert Experience

For big music, big stage

All the ambitions of the concert are truly reflected in the scale of the stage construction. Describing it as simply big would not be correct, because it is a serious competitor to the large stands of Mežapark, which the stage faces like a wall. In real life, watching the stage from the stands, it seems that the musicians are allocated a very narrow spot surrounded by the big screens, because they occupy most of the stage.

On the other hand, the stage itself is very small, and it is really surprising how it will be possible to fit both a symphony orchestra with musicians and soloists on it, but the concert organizers say that it is possible. Arstarulsmirus, the creative director of the concert, tells about the placement of the musicians.

“That ‘mouth’ looks so small. Imagine that there is a symphony, a band, soloists. We have hired choreographers who are responsible for the movement of the soloists in the blocks. Dramaturgy is also intended for soloists. Rolands če with “Antikvariata” is one of the most moving. “Sudden Lights” and “Other Boys” will also be coming out. Georges Siksna will probably be standing there at the piano.”

When we were on the big stage, we had a slightly different impression, because the “small mouth” that Arstarulsmirus talked about no longer seems so small, and is quite deep, from the musicians’ point of view. Arstarulsmirus explains that the symphony orchestra will occupy two thirds of the stage. In the left corner there will be a rhythm group, behind the symphony orchestra will be the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol”. The front with the tongue will remain for the soloists, where they can move and move the audience as well.

Olafs Saulriets explains that the big stage will help enhance the audience’s emotions with visual techniques.

“We also have the accent on the video content to enhance the emotion of the songs, so Papachi also “applauds” each song. I just counted. Orchestra, choir, band – will be on stage
100 people,” calculates Saulriets.

At first, one could get the impression that this great miracle was being built for several weeks, however, the creative core of the concert admits that everything was created in about seven days. According to Arstarulsmirus’ calculations, the stage is 1,600 square meters in size, and its dimensions are also estimated by the technical companies themselves.

“Technical companies that do this said that there has never been anything so huge in Latvia, even for foreign groups. I think everyone present here will appreciate it. Especially those in parking lots. This will be the biggest karaoke screen, because each song has a text video on the big screen,” says Arstarulsmirus.

We make big bets, we invite people to the fact that it is the Song Festival of popular music, we invite to the fact that even those who may not know these songs so well can sing along.

The stage from the musicians’ point of view

It seems that each of us has imagined at least once during a concert – what is it like to be there on stage? Musicians have to take into account many technical aspects, so the most beautiful sound and sight goes to the audience. Arstarulsmirus tells what it feels like to be on such a big stage.
