The company said the move would allow it to work directly with Ukraine to explore potential partners and eventually produce the light artillery.
BAE Systems has manufactured much of the weapons that Britain and other countries have sent to Ukraine. Since the Russian invasion, Britain has become one of Ukraine’s main defense providers.
BBC informs that the company has not yet opened an office or a factory in Ukraine, however active discussions are currently underway.
“The development of our own weapons production is a top priority,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday, August 31, on his profile on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. The president made the announcement after meeting with the company’s CEO, Charles Woodburn.

“Signing the contracts and establishing a legal entity in Ukraine builds on our existing trust and support, and paves the way for cooperation to provide more direct support to the armed forces,” commented the company’s CEO.
Zelensky reported in May that Kyiv and BAE Systems were working on a plan for the company to open an office in Ukraine. The media emphasizes that Kyiv wants to increase its stockpile of weapons and other military equipment, as well as to create jobs in the war-torn economy.
