Morgan to donate half of his ‘X Factor’ coaching fee for kids rejected by their families because they are gay. The singer himself announced it on Instagram after the media and social media storm that broke loose around him following the events that occurred during the concert at the Selinunte Archaeological Park dedicated to Franco Battiato, where the singer targeted a group of spectators starting to insult them, even with homophobic phrases,
The singer then returns to apologize to his fansmany of whom have asked to exclude him from ‘X Factor’, making the umpteenth mea culpa: “In these days I wanted to reconstruct what happened but I absolutely don’t want to hide to justify and I want to reiterate how wrong what I said is – he writes – I want my apologies to come sincere, heartfelt, clear and that they reach everyone because I know I have hurt so many people and my colleagues at ‘X-Factor’ and the whole team who work on it know it too”.
“The sentence I said – admits Morgan – is the furthest thing from my identity as a human being, I want to reiterate it. Everyone knows I’m not a homophobe but that’s not enough, does not excuse, does not justify. In fact, it is not enough to say that racist, homophobic or sexist idioms are used lightly, far beyond real convictions and intentions’.
For Morgan “we need to change this culture and this lexicon that unconsciously persist in the language of many and unfortunately, to my surprise and displeasure even then – he continues on Instagram – I gladly bear the public stigmatization of what happened and I accept the media pillory if this can help to change things, at least in part. I made a mistake for which I apologized but, to be clear, I don’t want to erase it, on the contrary I want to make a concrete gesture that doesn’t make it disappear but transforms it into something positive and useful”.
”I asked Fremantle and Sky – announces Morgan – to donate half of my ‘X-Factor’ cachet to a shelter for children rejected by their families of origin due to their sexual orientation, gender identity or because they have started a transition path. I thought about the importance of welcoming and I would like this concept to apply also to those who, like me, make a mistake”.
