Privacy Concerns Arise Over OMNY Fare Cap Tracking Feature on MTA Subways and Buses

A feature designed to track the fare cap for OMNY riders on Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) subways and buses is believed to be a threat to your privacy.

The Daily News newspaper report revealed in a publication in which they ensure that if you use this payment system, your travel history will be available to anyone who has your credit card number, including bars, restaurants or other businesses.

The system’s “recent trips” feature displays the time and date of each recent fare payment, as well as the season in which it was used.

Experts assured the publication that this feature could reveal a person’s daily patterns, something that could become a gold mine for stalkers or anyone with malicious intent.

Meanwhile, the MTA says the feature gives customers a way to check their free and paid ride history for the past seven days without having to create an OMNY account.
