The decision to go through the university or not is voluntary. However, the will is subject to the purchasing power of students and families, since on many occasions they cannot afford access to a faculty. For this reason, many students sacrifice part of their time to obtain additional income with which to cover part of the expenses.
While the usual thing is to perform a part-time job or during the weekends, Dylan Stone-Miller, a 32-year-old American from the state of Georgia, opted for another, more unusual method. Throughout the six years of his stay at the university, this young man decided to donate sperm and thus earn additional income. So far everything normal.
The story of this young man has captured media attention after his appearance in the newspaper The Wall Street Journala través de un reportaje titulado ‘A Sperm Donor Chases a Role in the Lives of the 96 Children He Fathered’ (A sperm donor pursues a role in the lives of the 96 children he fathered).
9,000 miles
As the young man told the American newspaper, Dylan began donating sperm after being arrested for drinking alcohol as a minor; his parents, not being willing to afford a lawyerled this young man to become interested in a donor clinic.
In this way, the young man began to provide semen to the bank in exchange for $100 per sample. Along with the donations, Stone-Miller granted the clinic permission to release her data to her hypothetical children, should they request it.
Years later, the adoptive parents of one of his children contacted him. “I really hope you don’t feel violated in any way, but it’s Canadian Thanksgiving and I wanted to tell you how grateful my family is to you“.
This was Dylan’s first approach to one of his 96 children. In this case, it was Harper, a three-year-old girl. After several conversations with the family, Dylan discovered a Facebook group who was named after his sperm bank identification number (Xytex 5186 Offspring), and through this group he began to take an interest in his other possible children.
So far, this young man has traveled 9,000 miles and has met 25 of his 96 children.
