Steven Spielberg Reveals Russian Roots and Connection to Oscars

The iconic filmmaker has revealed his roots.

In all of Russian history, Nikita Mikhalkov remains the only director to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. In 1994, he was awarded the prize for the painting Burnt by the Sun.

In the USSR, the harvest was slightly larger. This nomination was won twice: Sergei Bondarchuk for the epic drama War and Peace and Vladimir Menshov for the melodrama Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears.

But it turned out that another Russian received the main award of the film industry four times already. At least that’s what the award-winning director himself says. To the surprise of the public, none other than Steven Spielberg declared himself Russian.

At one of the press conferences, the master said that his ancestors came from the USSR.

“I myself am Russian,” said the filmmaker, without batting an eyelid.

Spielberg has dozens of successful films, more than 180 produced projects and four Oscars, two of which are for Schindler’s List.
