Transition to Electronic Food Vouchers: A Long-Awaited Change in Bulgaria’s Market

From 1 July 2024, food vouchers will be fully electronic. Changes to the Corporate Income Tax Act, adopted with the 2023 State Budget Act, provide for a transition period of six months from January 1 next year, during which they can also be provided on paper, as it is now.

“This was a long-awaited change in the market,” commented Tanya Obushtarova, Secretary General of the Association of Food Voucher Operators in Bulgaria.

According to her, digitization will facilitate users and improve the customer experience many times with the use of a modern modern tool that can be in the form of a map, but also completely virtual as an application.

The e-voucher will be partially redeemable – even for a minimal purchase. Now, the amount shown on the paper voucher must be spent, because change is not given in stores.

Employers will also be relieved in administration, the association believes.
