Celebrating 50 Years: David Lebón Presents “Herencia Lebón”

David Lebón, a key figure of Argentine rock, presented yesterday afternoon at the Hoyts Abasto venue in Buenos Aires the first part of “Herencia Lebón”, a visual film of six songs (his own and those of other composers), upon turning 50 years as a soloist and before facing a national tour that will end on November 12 at the Opera Theater.

“On stage I am in the middle of the noise but I don’t think when I’m playing; stopping external noise is easier, you put in two earplugs and that’s it, but how do you stop internal noise? The head is afraid to die, music taught me that and took me to the right place, ‘with your eyes closed you look better,’” said the 70-year-old singer-guitarist, quoting a line from “Standing in the middle of the life” from his time in Serú Girán.

Half a century has passed since Lebón released his first solo album (“David Lebón”, 1973), after having participated in the records “Pappo’s Blues Vol.1”, “La Pesada del Rock and Roll”, “Color Humano I” and “Rabid Fish 2”, and celebrate this anniversary with this musical film.

Excited and in a very good mood, the former Pescado Rabioso showed the six pieces that make up “Herencia Lebón”, made up of three recently released electric songs, and three acoustic ones that will be available on all platforms starting on September 15.

In the presence of the musicians who accompany him in this new adventure, others who participated as guests such as Baltasar Comotto, figures such as Kevin Johansen, Marcela Morelo and Maby Díaz and the media, the material was shown on the giant screen.

Like a kind of recital, recorded in a studio in the Almagro neighborhood, the film began with a huge version of “Noche de perros” (García-Lebón), followed with the classic by Serú Girán, and with “Without you I will explode ” (Lebón), from his album “El tiempo es vezo” (1982), to close with a powerful version of “Despíértate Nena” (Spinetta-Amaya), by Pescado Rabioso, with a virtuoso guitarist as a guest: Baltasar Comotto. who also sings part of the theme.

The sharp band is made up of Leandro Bulacio on backing vocals and keyboards, Roberto Seitz on bass, backing vocals and double bass, Daniel Ferrón on guitar and backing vocals, Daniel Colombres on drums and Gustavo Lozano on guitar and backing vocals.

“I don’t know if it’s the years or what, but I started to be very affectionate with everyone, that’s how they are affectionate with me, the truth is that I love the Argentine public, the Argentine journalists and the children here, because that is what I love. He gave a country that cost so much, since I was little I have heard complaints from my parents, from my grandparents, from everyone, but I really enjoyed it,” Lebón said in a talk he had with Eleonora Pérez Caressi and which was shared with those present.

Asked about who he considers to have taken his legacy, the guitarist replied: “Everyone has their things, there are years of genetics to make you alone, and I speak to my heart and to your heart, and what happens with us is very incredible and With the time that we are going to be here, we have to enjoy it, we have to go inside, stop going outside, I am free from material things”.

“Then the last detachment will come, which is the body and I know where I am going, I return home and I know that I left a lot in many boys, because many young boys go to see my concerts, those of the band”.

The singer said that his mother paved the way for music and conveyed her love for it, when, for example, she played the album “Rubber Soul” by The Beatles to make him relax, me when he gave him his first guitar .

“She was a lady who lived through World War II, yet she had an incredible heart,” she described.

“In those days I didn’t want to go to school, they kicked me out of school all the time and sent me home, I wanted to be one of The Beatles, they sent me home and one day my mother said to me ‘do you You want to play, right? But if you do, promise me you’re going to be famous,’ and I said, ‘Yes, of course, I’m going to be famous, I was 12 years old,’” he recalled.

Lebón said that his teachers were those he listened to on the radio when he was young, times in which he lived in the United States (from the age of eight to 17), including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt , George Michael, Elton John and Luis Alberto Spinetta.

The tour will begin on October 26 in Córdoba (Quality Arena) and will continue on October 28 in Rosario (Astengo Theater), on November 2 in San Juan (Juan Victoria Auditorium), on November 3 in Mendoza (Bustelo Theater) and on November 12 at the Great Rex.

“Herencia Lebón” will also have his live show and it will be on November 12 at the Opera, where he will review a large part of his career with great songs.

About what inheritance he would like to leave, the musician replied: “I don’t know if I’m going to see it, but a happy world, that they are all flown, all well, all with money, happy, hugging each other on the street, In my time it was more or less like that”.
