The National Olympic Committee revealed the participation of 140 male and female players representing the UAE in the upcoming Asian Games, which will be held in the city of Hangzhou, China, from September 20 to October 8, with the participation of 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries.
This came during a press conference of the Olympic Committee, which was held at the committee’s headquarters in Dubai yesterday. China has previously hosted the Asian Games on two occasions: the first in Beijing 1990, and the second in Guangzhou 2010.
During the press conference, the committee spoke about the details of the UAE delegation’s participation in the Asian event, in the presence of Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Director of the Technical and Sports Affairs Department of the National Olympic Committee, and officials of the participating sports federations.
Al-Tayeb said, “The UAE will participate in the Asian Games with a delegation of 140 athletes, with 102 male and 38 female players participating in 20 individual and group games: archery, equestrian, athletics, swimming, cycling, bow and arrow, judo, taekwondo, karate, jujitsu, fencing.” Boxing, basketball, rugby, sailing, rowing, chess, golf, electronic sports, and triathlon.

He stressed that the Olympic Committee is keen to strengthen and protect the foundations and values of the Olympic movement, in cooperation with national sports organizations and public bodies, and to spread the spirit of competition among athletes, through the application of available and appropriate scientific means to improve the performance of athletes, their skills, and their physical and moral capabilities, which supports athletes in representing the country. He added, “We emphasize the importance of honorable appearance and achieving results commensurate with the capabilities available to sports federations, as we consider the Asian Games a unique opportunity for all athletes, since the results of some sports are included in the points counted in the qualification process for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, such as judo and sailing.” And the triathlon.
UAE athletes begin their participation in the Asian Games in China, through sailing and rowing, three days before the official opening of the tournament, while swimming, rugby, boxing, fencing and judo begin on September 24, and karate sports concludes the Emirati participation in the event on the last day of the tournament on September 8. next October.
