The Swiss expectations of Grand Slam tournaments are no longer incredibly high. An exploit by Belinda Bencic? One last dance by Stan Wawrinka maybe? Both would still be possible at the US Open in New York, because Bencic and Wawrinka are still in the tournament. But the first highlight from a Swiss point of view at the last Grand Slam tournament of the season was provided by someone else: Dominic Stricker, 21-year-old newcomer from Gross Höchstetten near Bern. Three years ago, Stricker won the junior tournament at the French Open in Paris in the final against his compatriot Leandro Riedi and thus raised hopes in Switzerland that maybe they would have a man after Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.
