The new season of ‘The Heir’ has started again. Ruben Nicolai (48) dives into the archives again to look for the right heirs of deceased relatives. This week Ruben travels to the other side of the world to hand over an inheritance of more than 25,000 euros to the rightful heir.
“She actually broke the family”
Ruben is looking for Mrs. GE Henderson’s heir. She was born almost a hundred years ago in The Hague and died in 2009 at the age of 85. Since Mrs. Henderson had no children, she left her inheritance to a certain AL Gonçalves. “Nothing is known about the relationship between Mr. Gonçalves and Mrs. Henderson,” says inheritance law specialist Klaas Zondervan.
The team investigates, but the trail ends in a dead end. “The hope I had that Klaas found the Gonçalves family has gone,” Ruben sighs. Mr. Goncalves is deceased and has no children. After that, Ruben finds out that Mrs. Henderson has a brother named Franciscus, who left for America with three children.

Ruben then travels to the United States to find Nancy Henderson, Francis’s only living daughter. He manages to retrieve her information via the internet: “She lives in Sandpoint Idaho.” A little later, Ruben arrives at the trailer park where Nancy lives. “I’ve been looking for you for a long time,” Ruben tells her.
After a short chat at the front door, Ruben sits down at the table with Nancy and her daughter Lisa. Nancy is very curious as to why Ruben is looking for her, but before he answers, he wants to know more about her family history.
The history of the family turns out to be not exactly rosy. “We found out that my father had a girlfriend,” she tells Ruben. But Daisy, their father’s girlfriend, does not seem to have a good influence on the relationship between the children and the father. “My father actually forgot all of us.”

Shortly after Francis dies, they find out that all Dutch heirlooms have disappeared. “Daisy brought it all.” From their grandmother’s jewelry to their mother’s Delft blue vases, everything is gone. “There was a video where he said he left everything to her. We were not mentioned.”
“So she actually broke the family,” Ruben concludes excitedly. The situation still saddens Nancy. “It was very difficult for all of us.” Despite all the misery they have experienced within the family, Ruben now comes with good news. “I think I can make you happy with an amount of 25,832.50 euros.”
Nancy’s mouth drops open in amazement: “Wow, this is karma. (…) After all we’ve lost and all that’s happened.”
