Dominique Heintz leaves 1. FC Union Berlin and returns to 1. FC Köln. The billy goats left the 30-year-old in 2018.

Dominique Heintz still had a contract with 1. FC Union until June 2024, but his sporting prospects with the Irons were anything but promising. This season he hasn’t played a single minute in a competitive game, last season he was loaned out to league rivals VfL Bochum.
Now the paths are finally parting: The 30-year-old is returning to 1. FC Köln, with the billy goats the central defender signed a one-year contract until June 30, 2024. A corresponding report by “Bild” coincides with kicker information.
The 30-year-old is also a cheap solution for Cologne. Although the exact transfer modalities are not exactly known, it is rumored that he will either transfer for a free transfer or for a very small sum. However, the transfer fee can still increase depending on performance.
Either way. The Cologne have closed a position in defense. After the departure of Nikola Soldo to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, there was still a lack of backup in the center should one of the regular central defenders drop out.
And Heintz shouldn’t need a long start-up time at FC. He already played for the Domstädter between 2015 and 2018, for whom he scored three goals in 108 competitive games. Heintz was trained at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, after his time in Cologne he played for SC Freiburg between 2018 and 2022 before moving to 1. FC Union. Overall, Heintz can look back on 199 Bundesliga games (four goals) and 63 second division games.
