“Lebanese Debate”
The theft of “on your eyes, merchant” is carried out by Internet companies in Lebanon, when they decided to raise the 5-megabyte service to 25 dollars per month, after it did not exceed 12 dollars per month.
This decision was received by citizens with great shock in light of the difficult economic situation in which they live, which reflects an exploitation of the Cabinet’s decision to double OGERO services 7 times at the beginning of next September.
In this context, the Minister of Communications in the caretaker government, Johnny Al-Qarm, spoke to the “Lebanon Debate” about three solutions divided between quick, medium, and long-term solutions.
As for quick and short-term solutions, through cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Communications, a plan will be drawn up on how to find solutions, because the decree that was issued is clear and its price is in Lebanese pounds, not dollars.
As for intermediate solutions, Al Qurum confirmed that he had asked the “Ogero” organization, which is distributed to 14 centers in Lebanon, and in the places where these centers are located, it is not allowed to have such a thing as unregulated distribution, which means that all unregulated and unlicensed cables must be Still, revealing that the ministry will issue a statement related to this issue, and citizens will be informed that there is a time period of approximately one month for them to subscribe to legitimate internet services, either through the state or through legitimate companies.
And in the long-term stage, Al-Qarm revealed that “a committee has been formed in the ministry that includes all stakeholders, to work on the issue of developing the partnership according to Decree 9458, but this process takes a long time, because practically on the ground we need Internet companies to come to declare who are the distributors in Neighborhoods and maps so that we know them on the network, and connect them to the state network, and then open the network to some of them, to create legitimate competition, and stop monopoly and exploitation.
Al-Qarm stressed that “the ministry can put an end to those who took advantage of the decision and raised the tariff price randomly in the areas where Ogero is located, but there has been a problem since 2012, as there are distributors who have extended networks that are not defined by the state, but we are working on the issue to reach a solution.” result as quickly as possible.
