It is this Wednesday that the tax administration puts the property tax notices online in the private space of the taxes.gouv.fr site. On the other hand, for the owners who chose the paper format, it started from August 23 until September 26. And for this year, the addition promises to be salty.
Watch your mailboxes! This Wednesday, the tax administration is putting property tax notices online in the private space of the taxes.gouv.fr site. For taxpayers who have chosen the paper format, this has started since August 23 and it will be possible to do so until September 26. And what we can say is that for many owners, the addition promises to be difficult to swallow.
An automatic increase of 7% at the national level
First, because the level of the property tax is indexed to inflation, with a year’s delay. Result, it is already necessary to count on an automatic increase of 7% at the national level, against a little more than 3% last year. The objective is to cope with the inflation of energy bills and to finance new public services for the inhabitants. But also to compensate for the abolition of the housing tax, which guaranteed them significant tax revenues. The least we can say is that some municipalities have had a heavy hand.
In Paris, the tax takes off by 59%, inflation included. You must count 32% increase if you own a property in Grenoble, 21% in Metz, 17% in Limoges, or 16% in Lyon. Finally, it also rises in Cherbourg, Mulhouse, and Bordeaux, but in more reasonable proportions: a little over 10% increase, including inflation. In total, according to the General Directorate of Public Finance, the property tax rate is increasing in one municipality in seven. It is stable in certain large cities, such as Lille and Toulouse for example, and it is falling in a handful of municipalities in image of Compiègne or Tarbes.
Important clarification to finish, you have until October 21, 2023 at midnight to pay your property tax online. If you have not opted for electronic payment, the deadline is October 16.
