When a woman meets a man, it can either be great love or… big trouble. In Sharp Date, troubles are of the highest caliber – a promising acquaintance turns into a fight to the death. A young student, Gosia (Sylwia Boroń), unaware of the threat, flirts in a nightclub with an elegant, older man, Kurski (Paweł Wilczak). Starting an affair, she does not realize that she has a long night ahead of her that she will never forget, and she – the epitome of delicacy – will have to find determination and strength in herself to survive.
“A Sharp Date” is a genre film, a typical thriller whose task is to provide the audience with entertainment and strong emotions. The film is realistic, and at the same time uses the conventions of sensational cinema to a large extent. It was not the director’s intention to create a “serious” film, presenting the problem of crime, human trafficking, or the threats that may be faced by young people “who do not know life”. In “Sharp date” it’s about telling an interesting plot, drawing the viewer into the weave of events, which we have heard many times in the so-called. urban legends that really happen – also in Poland – informed the distributor of the image, Alter Ego Pictures.

The film is built on the conflict of two main characters – the young, romantic and naive Gosia, and the mature, dangerous criminal, Kurski, who ruthlessly tries to carry out his shocking plan. The weave of events and the clash of two extremely different characters will bring a surprising solution – the production was advertised.
In the film, we saw Sylwia Boroń (“Deceived”) debut in the main role and Paweł Wilczak, known for his various television and film roles (sitcom “Kasia i Tomek”, “Wesele”).

Supporting roles were played by actors of the young generation, just debuting in the profession – Daniel Misiewicz, Jadwiga Gryn, Michalina Sosna and valued actors: Anita Jańcia, Magdalena Czerwińska, Małgorzata Buczkowska and Ewa Szykulska.
Expressive episodes were created by talented actors from Poznań – Łukasz Chrzuszcz, Andrzej Szubski, Cezary Łukaszewicz, as well as Ireneusz Czop and a German actor of Iranian origin Mehdi Moinzadeh.
The scriptwriter and director of the film was Maciej Odoliński, the author of the television film “7 Minutes” with Przemysław Sadowski, which, despite a modest budget, achieved very good DVD sales. – New Look”, “24 Days”, and the short “Xero, City”.
– “Hard Date” was produced with private money. Maybe it’s better, because if the Polish Film Institute participated in this project, it would be worth going out on the street and protesting in defense of public money. In such a situation, we don’t care if someone decides to implement an idea, raises funds for it, arranges for several companies, which thanks to this, had the opportunity to present their products in a feature film. Nevertheless, it is surprising that any distribution company on the Polish market decided to introduce “Ostra dating” to cinemas. Not to mention the sponsors who read the script! Were they really hoping to support the production of something resembling a movie? Or are they just inexperienced? – Joanna Ostrowska wrote in a review for Interia.
“Sharp date” received the Snake for the worst Polish film of 2014, beating, among others, “The Secret of Westerplatte” by Paweł Chochlew, “Last Minute” by Patryk Vega or “Vulture” by Eugeniusz Korin.
The star of Marcin Odoliński’s production, Sylwia Boroń, was nominated in three categories: worst female role, worst duet on screen (Sylwia Boroń and the stapler) and the most embarrassing scene (with the stapler, of course).
“Unfortunately, even the most absurd scenes stylized (probably) as gore movies, in which, among others, a teenager sews a hole in her stomach with an office stapler, are taken completely seriously,” wrote Joanna Ostrowska in the review of “Ostra dating”.
Although Boroń did not receive a single infamous statuette, a year later she proved that she has a distance to herself and in a special clip announced the next edition of awards honoring the worst film productions of the season.
Sylwia Boroń invites you to the Snakes Gala 2015
The “distinction” at the Snakes gala was received worse by the director of the film Maciej Odoliński, suing the organizer of the anti-prize Kamil Śmiałkowski for using fragments of the film at the gala without the consent of the copyright owner.
“As a director, I humbly accept all critical remarks, and I am fully aware of the shortcomings and errors of our film,” Odoliński wrote in an open letter. And he called Śmiałkowski a “malicious pest” who “destroys our humble independent film instead of supporting it.”
The court initially acquitted Kamil Śmiałkowski.
“It wasn’t about showing fragments, but about closing the Serpents’ mouths. It was about silencing us, intimidating us, making everyone think five times in the future before saying something bad about the film. And that’s why it’s a real success not only for me, but also for the and all those who are not afraid to say what they don’t like” – Śmiałkowski commented on the whole commotion.
Years later, however, the case came back to the fore.
“Kamil Ś. unleashed a wave of hate against the film ‘Strong Date’ and the author, lying that some academy of 100 or 150 critics chose this film as the worst, and in fact he ‘voted’ himself, and he himself sent these lies to the tabloid media, and he lied that the accusation concerns criticism. No, it does not concern criticism, “wrote Maciej Odoliński in February 2023. And he quoted Winston Churchill: “Any fool can criticize, and many of them do.”
