Manchester City seriously chasing midfielders Wolverhampton Wanderers Matheus Nunes. Man City’s approach has the potential to provide benefits Liverpool.
Manchester City are trying to sign Matheus Nunes in the last days of the transfer market this summer. Last week an offer of £47 million was rejected by Wolves, but the Citizens have reportedly not given up.
Wolves are asking for at least 60 million pounds for the midfielder. On a personal level, it is estimated that Man City will have no significant difficulties securing Nunes because the 25-year-old player is also interested in joining.
Nunes even went on strike to make his way to Man City. Manchester City need a player like him to fill the role left by the injured Kevin de Bruyne.
Man City’s approach to Nunes is also predicted to have an impact on Liverpool. The Nunes transfer will open up opportunities for Kalvin Phillips to be released.
Phillips, who joined last summer, struggled to gain Pep Guardiola’s trust. Guardiola even recruited a new holding midfielder this summer, namely Mateo Kovacic, who became an alternative option for Rodri.
This means that the anchor role has been secured by these two players, while Man City now needs more box to box midfielders like Matheus Nunes. Liverpool themselves have already signed Wataru Endo to fill the anchor role, but they are still monitoring other opportunities in the transfer market.

“I think that’s one possibility that could happen if City can get it from Wolves. That will free Kalvin Phillips to go elsewhere,” he added about Phillips’ chance to join Liverpool.
