The Next Three Days tells the story of a man who, after his wife is convicted of killing her boss during an argument, tries to break her out of prison after she attempts suicide. But how real are the “escape” techniques used in the film?
When we talk about films that tell of great escapes, we very often fall into the terrain of the surreal. Some dynamics are so absurd as to cast doubt on the realism of the techniques used to narrate the daring escapes of the protagonists. However, for The Next Three Days it seems that the director gave particular importance to the adherence to the reality of what was being told, trying to use evasion techniques within the film that were at least plausible.
One of the most incredible curiosities of The Next Three Days concerns precisely the way in which various burglary techniques used in the film are actually used by some professional thieves. The “bump key” technique used in the film is one of the most common with older and less technically complex locks. In short, we are talking about a method used with cylinder locks which are currently little used. Different, however, is the story concerning the technique of “the car lock tennis ball” which was later defined as a false myth in a 2007 episode of the television program MythBusters.
