STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl: A Mixed Reception at Gamescom

STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl definitely got attention at Gamescom, but the game itself isn’t doing so well so far

The demo of STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl was brought to Gamescom. The technical condition leaves much to be desired, the graphics are also not so impressive.

Digital Foundry specialists also paid attention to STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl and spent a few minutes discussing the GSC Game World product in a recent podcast: they see the potential, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

At first glance, STALKER 2 looks good: GSC Game World uses the modern Unreal Engine 5, Lumen global illumination technology, as well as Nanite virtualized geometry.

We noticed that Nanite was not used for foliage, so its loading was noticeable. There was also a strange effect in the trees: there was a feeling that they were swaying a little. Digital Foundry did not understand why this was happening.

I didn’t like the facial animation: during the conversation, they looked through the hero. The voices seemed strange, suggested that these were stubs for a demo.

Artificial intelligence pleased: the enemy did not just take cover, but then changed position when the player tried to get close to him. The result was an interesting chase.

Shooting needs to be improved, but already better than the first STALKER
