Christopher Nolan was a fan of one of Ryan Gosling’s movies long before competing against the actor’s latest title this summer. ‘Barbenheimer‘ filled the headlines in recent weeks due to an advertising strategy like few have seen. Two of the most anticipated movies of July, ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’, hit theaters around the world on the same day (July 20) and audiences were split over which one deserved their attention first.
In Nolan’s tape, Cillian Murphy led the cast, getting into the skin of the “father of the atomic bomb.” For his part, in ‘Barbie’, directed by Greta Gerwig, we saw Margot Robbie and Gosling playing the mythical Mattel dolls, Barbie and Ken.
Rummaging through the trunk of memories, we found some old statements by the filmmaker responsible for hits like ‘Interstellar’, ‘Dunkirk’ or ‘Tenet’, in which he admitted to having been a staunch fan of one of Ryan Gosling’s billboard triumphs: ‘La La Land’, the contemporary musical in which he co-starred with Emma Stone.

The filmmaker spoke with Entertainment Weekly and he admitted to having gone to the cinema to see the film directed by Damien Chazelle up to three times. Something that, since he crossed into adulthood and began to play his role as a father, is not so easy for him.
“The only thing I noticed that changed from when I was a kid, is that as an adult (I’m almost 47 years old) I rarely go back to the theater to see a movie I enjoyed,” the director recounted in 2017. “I did it with ‘La La Land’. I enjoyed it very much. I went to see her three times. That joy of the possibility of a new movie, and being there on opening night with a huge audience… I don’t think that will ever change. It is a magical experience.“
But why did you decide to repeat? As she confessed, it had all been to make sure she was as good as she’d seemed the first time he’d seen her.
“Why did I see her again? I think in part I did it to see if she was as good as she had thought, and she was,” concluded the director.
Universal
‘La La Land’ earned Emma Stone an Oscar for best leading actress in 2017. In addition, it gave rise to one of the most memorable moments in Oscars history.
When the most anticipated moment of the night arrived, the one in which the “best film of the year” was going to be announced, due to an organizational error, Chazelle’s film was proclaimed the winner. However, moments after the initial jubilation, it was resolved that the real winner was ‘Moonlight’, the A24 film directed by Barry Jenkins.
The entire team of ‘La La Land’ would get off the stage and return the golden statuette. A bad drink that will go down in memory as one of the most controversial of the gala.
