With a clear 40:0 win (7:0/13:0/13:0/7:0) the Mönchengladbach Wolfpack footballers defeated the Remscheid Amboss team on Sunday afternoon. The 200 or so spectators in Odenkirchen-Süd saw a game that was dominated by the two defensive lines. The Remscheid guests lacked the means in attack, the offense of the pack lacked precision and penetrating power for a long time.
Significantly, the Mönchengladbach defense got two touchdowns after interception returns; both teams could not convert a field goal attempt. The points for the hosts came from touchdowns Jason Scales (2x), Danny Lange, Nico Hommers, Taylor and Oliver Martinje, Niklas Schützendorf (3x) and Lange converted four of the six extra points (PATs).
Mönchengladbach, who secured third place in the Oberliga table with their win, have no games next weekend. Head coach Phil Scales’ team will play the second leg against the Münster Mammuts on September 9th – the Wolfpack had won the first leg 17-0.
This will be followed on September 17 by the probable decision game for this year’s runners-up championship: The Wolfpack will then be expecting the Minden Wolves at 3 p.m., the only team besides Krefeld that the pack has had to admit defeat to.
