Chairman of PSSI Erick Thohir said FIFA was reviewing the four Indonesian stadiums that were proposed to be venues 2023 U-17 World Cup.
Erick said the FIFA delegation would visit four stadiums, namely the Jakarta International Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat (Bandung), Manahan (Solo), and Gelora Bung Tomo (Surabaya).
“FIFA is checking the field, yesterday in Jakarta on the 26th and today [Minggu] in Bandung, I will definitely go to Surabaya and Solo to check the number of 15 to 20 people who have come. This is serious,” said Erick at Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya, Sunday (27/8).
Because of that, Erick asked the stadium manager to complete all preparations and repair notes. One of them is about grass at JIS and access to additional parking areas.
“Again, we have to make sure that all repairs will be done on time, such as repairs to the football stadium in Jakarta for the grass to be on time, access for spectators from JIS to the Ancol parking lot on time,” he said.
“Law maintenance in Manahan is on time. In Surabaya maybe some records can be done on time,” added Erick.
Not only about the stadium, the U-17 Indonesian National Team which will compete has also been prepared. Currently, the U-17 National Team already has a selected core team, and they are expected to play well.
“Coach Bima already has assistance from Coach Indra and Coach Frank, hopefully we have a U-17 team that can play like last night. [Piala AFF U-23 di Thailand)] which gave us the guts to play well,” said Erick.
Erick hopes that the opportunity to host this event can be maximized by the players. Because this was also the moment when Garuda Muda showed his skills on the world stage.
“Of course this is an opportunity that shows not only us as hosts on the world stage, but also young national team players to be reckoned with,” he said.
