An Efteling visitor is said to have grabbed money from the Wensbron in Efteling on Sunday afternoon. This can be seen in images that have surfaced on social media. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” spokesman Steven van Gils responds.
A man in shorts steps into the Wish Well, which is located near the Gondoletta attraction. Bystanders laugh at the man’s action. He seems to be grabbing one or more coins with his right hand, as can be seen in the video.
The man would not have lost anything in the well. “He had been looking in the pit all the time looking for money,” says vlogger Morris van Aerle, who made the video around half past five on Sunday afternoon. “He just went in with his stupid head! His son was there too and was filming laughing.”
“It looks antisocial, especially for an adult,” responds the spokesperson, who saw the images for the first time on Monday morning. “Usually it’s small children who do something like that, they don’t always know what they’re doing. Then they bend over the edge. I’ve never seen someone literally stand in the pit.”
Charity
The proceeds normally go to a charity: Save the Children. “The charity is now the victim.” Whether and how much has been captured, the fairytale park does not know. “The well is deep, but there is still a kind of fence on it. Coins remain on it. So the gentleman cannot have collected large amounts of money,” emphasizes Van Gils.
“If we had seen him, we would have sent security,” the spokesperson continues. A spokesperson could not say whether Efteling has filed a report or will do so. “Taking action afterwards is often difficult.” The yield of the well was still 7500 euros in 2021.
Park visitors can toss a coin into the Wishing Well near Gondoletta Pond and make a wish. In the center is a bronze-colored statue of a creature with a large fish. The well was opened on May 21, 1985 by Princess Juliana and Anton Pieck.
