Asus Zenfone 10: The Last Model in the Series and the Death Knell for Compact Smartphones

Asus is probably planning a major corporate restructuring
The department in charge of the Zenfone series is also to be affected by the changes
The compact flagship Zenfone 10 will most likely be the last model

From a historical point of view, it is interesting to observe the development of the diagonal size of the display in smartphones, especially the differences in the perception of different sizes by the users themselves. It wasn’t so long ago that in reviews we used to refer to those around 4.3″ as “large”, while today we consider compact smartphones to be those with a display panel below 6″. With thinner bezels and newer technologies, our preferences and perceptions have changed. has changed the “large” and “compact” smartphone more than once.

Asus Zenfone 10 is probably the last model of this series

Although a number of fans of compact flagship models appear not only in discussions, the reality is unfortunately far from their wishes. Some manufacturers who listened to these voices and launched exemplary equipped smartphones with a smaller diagonal were also convinced of this – all are slowly ending their production and relying primarily on smartphones with larger displays, which are in significantly higher demand among customers. After the giant named Apple gave up on smaller phones, it now looks like another manufacturer will also stop making compact flagship models.

The death knell is evidently ringing for compact smartphones

That manufacturer is the Taiwanese Asus, which quite recently introduced its compact flagship called the Zenfone 10, which boasts a display diagonal of only 5.9″. According to the Taiwanese source Technews, Asus is facing organizational restructuring, which aims to reduce the number of employees in the computer department both on the island and in mainland China. Originally, according to a leaked internal document, many employees were expected to be reassigned to the mobile division between the teams working on the Zenfone and ROG Phone models, but were instead let go.

The wave of layoffs will also eventually affect the department working on Zenfones, which will apparently be completely abolished and its employees will be transferred to other departments. At the same time, it was also announced that the Asus Zenfone 10 will be the last smartphone from this series, which has been in production since 2014. Although the Zenfone phones were never among the mass-market devices, they had a fairly loyal target group that appreciated the fact that they they weren’t afraid to do things differently. Now those customers will have to find a new preferred brand, which won’t be easy given that there aren’t many compact smartphone companies left.
