Christodoulides gives the green light to citizenship for those born from mixed marriages

According to the news of Politis Newspaper, the first article of the 14-item confidence-building measures package prepared by Christodoulides for Turkish Cypriots was reserved for those born from mixed marriages.

In the first stage, Christodoulidis was looking for a way to grant citizenship to people whose parents were Turkish Cypriots and the other foreigners. It was stated that Turkish Cypriot children could be granted citizenship. It was stated that there were 3 thousand 530 people who applied and were waiting in this way. In Christodoulides’ package of 14-item measures, the article on mixed marriages is given as follows:

“With procedures that do not legalize Turkish settlers illegally found in Northern Cyprus, a way is sought to grant citizenship to people whose parents are Turkish and the other is foreign. In the first stage, there are people who are married to Turkish citizens and who, for example, celebrated their wedding abroad, met during their studies, etc. Turkish children will be granted citizenship. According to the data of the Ministry of Interior, 3,530 such applications are pending (data of the Ministry of Interior).
