Radio presenter Sven Pichal (44) has terminated his contract with VRT with immediate effect. He made that decision because there is a judicial investigation against him. The police and the public prosecutor’s office have launched an investigation into Sven Pichal, known as ‘The Inspector’ on Radio 2. According to our information, he is suspected of sexual offenses and has been locked up in the prison in Turnhout since Friday. It would be about possession and distribution of child pornography. Bob Vermeir, spokesman for VRT, confirms that the collaboration with Sven Pichal has been terminated. “On Saturday we received a message from Sven Pichal’s counsel that he wanted to terminate the collaboration with VRT with immediate effect for personal reasons,” says Bob Vermeir. “We are not aware of the personal reasons. We refer to his lawyer for that.”
Lawyer Walter Damen does not want to say much for the time being. “Sven Pichal has decided to resign from the VRT for personal reasons. Sven will seek professional guidance and withdraw from public life. Sven will not comment further and would like to thank everyone who has supported him,” said Damen.

Sven Pichal was due to appear in court on Tuesday. He must decide on his further detention. In the meantime, Pichal remains in prison. The radio presenter is in a separate cell in the prison in Turnhout. He has also requested a visit behind glass in the prison, so that he does not have to go into the general visitors’ room to receive visitors.
Sven Pichal started working for the Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting in 2000, as an editor and reporter, and has already accomplished quite a bit.
