Train Explosion Risk Averted at CFR Caracal Station: Updates and Safety Measures

New danger of explosion signaled in the station of Caracal, where a train with 38 wagons loaded with LPG is stationed, there are gas leaks. The police in Olt were alerted on Sunday evening about the fact that there are small gas leaks in the penultimate carriage, at a tap.

According to G4Media sources, the company transporting the gas is Grup Feroviar Roman (GFR), controlled by businessman Gruia Stoica. The train was coming from Capul Midia.

“The evacuation of the CFR staff, the passengers and the marking of the area was ordered. Attempts are being made to disconnect the wagon from the train,” the statement states. Of the train’s 38 cars, 5 are loaded with LPG, 3 with propane and 30 with diesel and gasoline.

Currently, it is recorded that there are no more gas leaks, but that the safety device will be maintained until the arrival of the representatives of the company that manages the wagons.

“The safe tightening of the valve has been achieved. Following the checks carried out by the ISU, it was found that there are no more gas leaks. The safety device is maintained, until the arrival of the representatives of the company that manages the wagons”, G4Media sources said.

Two fire trucks, a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) truck and two first response trucks were deployed at the scene of the event.

“For the protection of the population in the Caracal Station area, a safety perimeter of 400 meters has been marked. No people were evacuated. Following the maneuvers carried out by the intervention teams and the staff at work, the valve was closed, and following the measurements of the CBRN crew, all values ​​were zero,” states the ISU press release.
