After a powerful early phase by the Lions, the Red Bulls came into play better with a power play (5th) and had the first chances. But Zurich took the lead from a counterattack (8′), Jesper Fröden used a cross pass on the right post, which Salzburg goalkeeper David Kickert (first backup today was the 18-year-old German Academy goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner, Atte Tolvanen was missing because he had a cold) let it pass had to. From the 50th minute, Salzburg suddenly turned up the heat again, but were unable to get through a number of powerful shots. After a rousing final phase, the score remained 0-1, meaning that the Red Bulls had to yield to the ZSC Lions in the fight for third place.
