The case of members of the Presidential Guard (Paspampres), Praka RM, allegedly abusing youths to death, caused a commotion. The case has even received serious attention from Commission I of the DPR.
Information regarding the suspicion that Praka RM abused a young man from Mon Keulayu, Gandapura District, Bireuen, Aceh, to death was widely circulated on social media. In one of the uploads on social media, it was narrated that the victim of Praka RM’s abuse was kidnapped first and then abused by elements Paspampres it was with two of his friends. The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday (12/8). The victim was also said to have received threats if he did not send money to the person Paspampres.
In a viral upload on social media, it was also stated that a certificate of surrender of the body was issued by the Military Police of the Jayakarta/Jayakarta Military Command on Thursday (24/8/2023). The perpetrators were called Praka RM and served in the Battalion of State Protocol Guards (Yonwalprotneg) Paspampres.
Danpaspampres Major General Rafael Granada Baay then opened his voice over the incident. Rafael said that the case of alleged abuse by Praka RM had been handled by Pomdam Jaya.
“Regarding the incident of persecution above, currently the authorities, namely Pomdam Jaya, are carrying out an investigation into the alleged involvement of members of the Paspampres in the criminal act of persecution,” said Rafael in a statement to reporters, Sunday (27/8/2023).
Rafael explained that Praka RM was currently under arrest. The detention was made for the purpose of investigation.
“The suspect is currently being detained at Pomdam Jaya for information and for investigation purposes,” he added.
He also emphasized that Praka RM would be prosecuted according to the applicable rules if proven guilty. He asked for prayer that the problem would be resolved soon.
“If it is truly proven that a member of the Paspampres committed a criminal act as alleged above, they will certainly be prosecuted according to the applicable legal provisions,” said Rafael.
“We ask for your prayers so that this problem can be resolved soon,” he continued.
A similar commitment was also conveyed by Assistant Intelligence Danpaspampres (Asintel Danpaspampres), Colonel Kav Herman Taryaman. Herman stated that Paspampres would be transparent in the alleged abuse case.
“If it is truly proven that Paspampres members have committed a crime as alleged above, they will be legally processed in accordance with applicable legal provisions, strict and transparent,” said Herman.
